Mental health statistics are dwindling as it is:

Highly competitive lives, a desire to stand apart and be special, the pressure of fulfilling other people’s expectations. And the most important, the fight to break the chain of dissatisfaction is taking a toll. In addition to these already intense problems, there has been a new black swan event contributing to this i.e Covid-19.

COVID-19 has led to widespread social distancing.

Every other country has implemented lockdown in some way. While people in their own way are trying to maintain social distancing by staying home as much as possible to help slow down the pace of COVID 19, it would seem that a major other pandemic is brewing in our own backyards – Depression.

The switch from regular work life and also our social life to one which is completely restrained within the walls of a home is not an easy one by any means. While very few of us are taking it in a constructive way. And exploring new things to try, most of us are finding it really challenging to adjust to this new normal.

Continuous isolation is leading to an increase in loneliness, job-loss, pay-cuts, or loss of business, fear of contracting the virus. And inadvertently transmitting it to family members and in some extreme cases, increased mental or physical abuse is causing more fractures in the lives of people who are already distressed. This has given rise to a surge in depression amongst the masses. It has accelerated at the speed of light due to COVID-19.
